Overview
This page describes the steps necessary to attach a sheevaplug to a JBOD RAID device over USB 2.0 interface. These devices offer large capacities and flexible configurations. Paired with a SheevaPlug, an inexpensive robust NAS configuration can be realized.
Hardware Setup
Connect device as suggested by JBOD RAID vendor. Directly connect SheevaPlug to RAID device via USB.
Software Setup
The factory-shipped and "Version 1" Ubuntu Linux cannot utilize multiple devices on the USB RAID array due to limitations in the ORION platform support in 2.6.30.x. In order to utilize multiple independent disks (JBOD) 2.6.31 is required. Download the 2.6.31.1 kernel and modules here, and follow the upgrade instructions here.
Confirmation
After rebooting you should be able to see multiple disk devices mounted with the USB Mass Storage driver in /var/log/messages
